About Me
👩‍💻 I’m a research fellow at the Australian National University’s Neuroinformatic group, working with Dr. Hanna Suominen.
🤖 My research interests are in advanced computer vision and deep learning, focusing on creating intelligent systems to assist humans. I have a research background in autonomous navigation, AI-enabled intelligent aerial inspection, and computational fluid dynamics. I am passionate about pushing the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to solve real-world problems, particularly in the fields of healthcare and maintenance, by developing practical and scalable solutions.
👩‍🎓 In December 2022, I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso, where I was a member of the NASA MIRO Aerospace Center’s (cSETR) Drone team. I was fortunate to be advised by Dr. Angel Fores-Abad and Dr. Ahsan Choudhuri. Throughout my doctoral studies, I had the privilege of participating in a range of impactful projects, in collaboration with industrial partners and generously funded by the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) from 2018 to 2022.
🎖️ I am originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I served in the Bangladesh Air Force as a Maintenance Engineering Officer for over a decade, retiring as a Squadron Leader. I was awarded the prestigious Chief of Air Staff’s trophy as the best all-rounder from the Air Force Academy.
🗺️ Besides my scientific interests, I am an avid traveler; I like to read, hike, and craft in my spare time.

- 27/06/2023: Gave a talk as a mentor at the WiPAE (Women* in Physics, Astro & Engineering), ANU’s professional development session.
- 15/05/2023: Moved to ANU to begin my research fellowship!
- 20/12/2022: Submitted the final Technical Report: Autonomous Aerial Power Plant Inspection in GPS-denied Environments for our DOE Project (sponsoring Org: US DOE Office of Fossil Energy (FE), Office of Clean Energy Systems (FE-22) ).
- 15/12/2022: We have a new preprint on Deep Learning based Aerial Intelligent Crack Detection in Infrastructure using Computer Vision at the Edge.

- 04/08/2022: Presented our work in the closing presentation for our DOE-funded project “Autonomous Aerial Power Plant Inspction in GPS-denied Environments”

- 13/10/2021: Our paper, Autonomous aerial flight path inspection using advanced manufacturing techniques is accepted for publication in the journal, Robotica.
- 08/2021: I started teaching as a Ph. D. Instrutor (Course Convennor for Engineering Computation) at the Department of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering at UTEP.
- 18/05/2021 - I attended the DOE Crosscutting Research and Advanced Energy Systems Project Review Meeting 2021 and presented our work on UAV-trajectory generation in GPS-denied areas.
- 06-10/01/2020: I attended AIAA Scitech 2020 Forum in Orlando, Florida and presented my paper on A CAM/AM-based Trajectory Generation Method for Aerial Power Plant Inspection in GPS-denied Environments.
- 9-11/04/2019 - I attended the 2019 Project Review Meeting for Crosscutting Research, Rare Earth Elements, Gasification Systems, and Transformative Power Generation at Pittsburgh, PA and presented our work on UAV-trajectory generation in GPS-denied areas.
- 08/2018: Started working as a graduate Research Associate at NASA MIRO Centre for Space Exploration & Technology Research, cSETR (currently known as Aerospace Center at UETP) in the UAV team.
- 07/2018: I defended my M.Sc. Thesis!
